MNRB 2011 Scholarship Awards

MNRB  SCHOLARSHIP FUND, a fund established by MNRB HOLDINGS BERHAD (a Company listed on the Main Board of the Bursa Malaysia and a subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB)), invites scholarship applications from young Malaysians planning to persue tertiary on a full-time basis at any recognised institution of higher learning.

Fields of Study
Actuarial Science - Professional Actuarial Qualification
Risk Management - Matriculation/Foundation, Diploma, First Degree
Insurance - Matriculation/Foundation, Diploma, First Degree
 
Value of Award
  • Tuition fees based on actual for students in public universities or colleges and a maximum of RM8,000.00 per annum for students in private universities or colleges. The actual tuition fees are paid for overseas studies.
  • Allowance of RM8,000 per annum for local Matriculation/Foundation or Diploma courses and
    RM10,000 per annum for First Degree courses.
  • Professional Actuarial Qualification - Subsistence allowance and related fees imposed by the Actuarial Association e.g. membership fees, examination fees, study materials.
A bonding period is attached to the scholarship.

Selection Criteria
Insurance and risk Management
  • below 23 years of age
  • SPM - Obtained at least grade A in a minimum of 6 subjects (inclusive of English, Mathematics and Science); OR
  • STPM - Obtained at least 3As and pass the General Paper; OR
  • Matriculation, Diploma or Degree - Obtained a CGPA of at least 3.50
Actuarial Science - Professional Actuarial Qualification
  • Below 26 years of age
  • Graduates with Master of Science in Actuarial Science and/ or Actuarial Management
  • Graduates with Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science from recognised overseas universities are also encourage to apply
  • Preferably single
Additional Requirements
  • Must write a 1-page English essay (on a separate sheet of paper) describing reason for applying for the scholarship, benefits from the course of study and education & career plans
  • Preference will be given to those active in co-corricular activities
  • Must not be a recipient of a scholarship/loan/financial assistance from any other organisations
The offer is subject to the applicants gaining entry into recognized local or overseas institutes of higher learning to pursue the approved courses

Trial SPM/ STPM Results
Candidates with TRIAL SPM/STPM RESULTS, who meet the above mentioned selection criteria are also encouraged to apply. Selected candidates will be given provisional offer, subject to the variance between the actual results and the trial results being within acceptable range.

    Merdeka Scholarships




    Overview
    The Khazanah-Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Merdeka Scholarships, established to mark the 50th anniversary of Malaysia's independence, are intended to enable outstanding Malaysian students to undertake postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.
    Subject areas may be drawn from a range of fields. Candidates are required to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement, and how their study will make a contribution to the future needs of Malaysia.
    Awards will include University and College fees, accommodation and subsistence allowances, and return air fares. Awards are renewable annually through the duration of the programme of study.


    Eligibility
    1.Citizens of Malaysia
    2. Have an excellent record of academic achievement and a proven capacity for independent research.
    3. Attention will also be given to leadership potential and ability to communicate.

    4. Candidates will be expected to show how their careers and the wider interests of Malaysia will benefit from a period of study at Oxford.

    Fields of study covered by the Scholarship Programme:
    a) Business: Economics, Finance, Investment, Law, Actuarial Science;
    b) Bio-medical Sciences: Bio-chemistry, Food Technology, Bio-technology, Bio-engineering, Molecular Biology, Genomics and Bio-informatics;
    c) Engineering: Electronics, Micro-Electronics, Nano-technology, Materials Science.
    Other fields may be considered.

    How to Apply

    To apply, applicants are required to submit the following:
    • The completed application form (please click to download the application form);
    • A signed personal statement of no more than 1,000 words that includes a description of the intended area of study and describes how this will benefit Malaysia. The statement should also outline the applicant's reasons for wanting to study at Oxford, and summarise the personal qualities that would make them a worthy recipient of a scholarship;
    • A list of academic qualifications and other awards and honours received;
    • A statement of the status of their application to the University of Oxford;
    • Two confidential letters of recommendation from referees who can assess in detail the applicant's academic performance and potential. The recommendation letters must reach the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies by the application deadline.
    The closing date for applications is 10th January 2011.
